The Lake Forest College men's tennis team defeated Schreiner University 8-1 and host Southwestern University 7-2 on Friday to complete its Spring Break trip to Texas with a 4-2 record. Senior Jon Flaksman was one of three players on the team to win all four of his matches on the day.
Flaksman and freshman Ryan Kreis started the day with an 8-1 victory at #2 doubles. Junior Elliot Muth and sophomore John Adams prevailed 8-2 at #1.
The Foresters swept the six singles matches. Kries posted a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory at #1 and Muth took both sets at #2 6-2. Adams cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at #3 and Flaksman defeated Schreiner's #4 player 6-1, 7-5. Senior Chris Paterakos prevailed 6-4, 6-0 at #5 and junior Nick Cantor win 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 at #6.
Lake Forest won 8-2 at the top two spots in the doubles lineup against Southwestern. Muth and Adams extended their winning streak at #1 to five matches while Kreis and Flaksman won their third in a row at #2.
Kreis was also victorious (6-2, 6-0) at #1 singles, raising his record on the season to 7-3. Adams' 6-2, 6-1 triumph at #3 was his team-high eighth in 10 matches this spring. Flaksman is also 7-3 after winning 6-1, 6-0 at #4. Paterakos (6-1, 6-3) and Cantor (6-4, 6-1) also won at #5 and #6, respectively.
The Foresters are now 7-3 overall this season. Schreiner fell to 1-3 and Southwestern to 3-6.
"I am very pleased with the way the team performed on the trip," commented head coach Jason Box. "I also feel good about the progress we made over the course of the week. We were definitely playing our best tennis of the season on Friday and I look forward to the high level of play continuing when we return to Lake Forest."
Lake Forest's next match will be against visiting Wabash College on Saturday, March 19. The contest, which will be played at the Raquet Club of Lake Bluff, will begin at 12:30 p.m.
