The Forester men's hockey team posted a 5-3 victory at Finlandia University on Saturday and has now earned a total of seven points in the last three Northern Collegiate Hockey Association games.
Sophomore forward Jared Gerger scored to give the visitors the early lead just 62 seconds into the contest. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Finlandia accounted for the next three goals in a span of less than five-and-a-half minutes of game time. After tying the score with 1:45 to play in the opening period, the home team converted a power play opportunity three minutes into the second and added another tally just 29 seconds later.
Lake Forest's comeback began with senior defenseman Vaughan Bamford's second goal of the season at 6:09 in the second period. Sophomore defenseman Matteas Derraugh then knotted the score at three at the 16:32 mark with Gerger assisting for his second point of the contest.
Derraugh also contributed to the final two goals of the game. He helped set up freshman forward Colin Bella's team-leading eighth tally of 2022-23 at 7:32 in the third and then netted his second of the day and fourth this season with 3:32 to play.
The Lions pulled their goalie with 1:20 on the clock but were unable to close the gap.
Lake Forest senior goaltender Nick Wiencek made 21 saves in the game, including 10 in the final period, to earn the victory.
The Foresters are now 4-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in NCHA play. They moved into a tie with Concordia University Wisconsin for sixth place in the conference standings. Finlandia fell to 0-7-1 overall and 0-5-0 in the league.
The same two teams will face off again at Finlandia Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
