With a second straight round of 302 on Monday, the Forester men's golf team is in third place after day two of three at the 2023 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
Sophomore Chris Petri turned in the team's best round on Monday, finishing with an even-par 72 on the 6,594-yard course at Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville, Illinois. He birdied the opening hole and then rattled off 13 consecutive pars before closing bogey-birdie-bogey-par. His two-day total of 148 matches the 12th-best 36-hole score in program history and he is tied for fifth place in the 55-player field going into Tuesday's final round.
Three other Foresters join Petri in position to earn All-SLIAC status as one of the top 16 finishers in the tournament. Sophomore Max Golding and seniors Jack Dwyer and James Johnson are currently tied-for-ninth at 152. Dwyer finished with a 75 on Monday, Golding a 76, and Johnson a 79.
The Foresters' current score of 604 is the third-lowest 36-hole total in team history and they are on pace to break the 54-hole mark of 918, set at the 2018 Midwest Conference Championships and matched at the same even a year later.
After finishing Monday's round in just 290 shots, Spalding University passed day one leader Webster University and is atop the standings at 591. Webster is second with a score of 294, 10 strokes ahead of Lake Forest. Illinois College is fourth at 612.
Tuesday's third and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
