The Lake Forest College men's basketball team jumped out to a 33-10 lead in the game's first 10 minutes and finished off an 85-61 triumph over visiting Benedictine University Tuesday night.
Forester sophomore guard Alex Knight all players with a career-high 19 points. He shot 6-for-10 from the field, knocked down all six of his free throw attempts, and dished out five assists on the night.
Senior forward Frank Siegien, freshman forward Noah Deitch, and junior guard Rocco Ronzio were next on the team with 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively. They combined to shoot 18-for-28 from the floor, helping freshman guard Elijah Bull rack up six assists. Ronzio led the home team with five rebounds, added four assists, and matched Bull for team-high honors with three steals.
The Foresters made their first nine field goal attempts of the game and shot 57.4 percent on the night. They also made nine of 17 shots from three-point range and 14 of 15 free throws while out-rebounding their guests 32-25.
Lake Forest's early lead reached double figures less than five minutes into the contest and grew to as many as 24 in the first half. Benedictine got no closer than 19 points after halftime.
The Foresters are now 1-2 and the Eagles 0-2 on the season.
Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play against Grinnell College Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
