The first Forester Invitational cross country race in six years is one of nine home events for the Foresters this week.
Cross country teams from a handful of nearby schools will join the Foresters at Foss Park Golf Course with the women's 6-kilometer race beginning at 4:45 p.m. and the men's 8-kilometer race following at 5:30. The last Forester Invitational was held in 2011 and Foss Park is the third different venue for the event. The Lake Forest runners were off from competition last weekend after starting the season on September 2 at the Tom Barry Invitational, where the men defended their team title and the women placed fifth out of 14 teams.
Prior to the cross country meet, a pair of Forester teams will be competing on Tuesday and two more on Wednesday. The first event on Tuesday's docket is the Elmhurst Bluejay Invitational women's golf tournament. Lake Forest is coming off a lopsided dual match victory over Benedictine University at Lake Bluff Golf Club on Friday. Forester players posted the top six scores with sophomore Kaitlyn Gray leading the way with an 83. The team will also compete in the Marian Invite on Saturday and Sunday. Lake Forest placed second out of four teams at Elmhurst and won the Marian Invite last season.
Lake Forest will host five soccer games in six days, beginning with Tuesday's women's match-up with North Park University (3-1-0). The Foresters (0-4-0), who are coming off a 3-1 loss to visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday, won 2-1 in overtime at North Park a year ago but are just 4-7-0 against the Vikings all-time. Lake Forest will also host Wisconsin Lutheran College (1-3-0) on Friday and Concordia University Wisconsin (0-2-1) on Saturday. The Foresters blanked Wisconsin Lutheran 4-0 and Concordia Wisconsin 1-0 in overtime in 2016 and are 6-0-0 all-time against the Warriors and 10-6-2 versus the Falcons.
The Forester men's soccer team has won its last two games, including Saturday's 1-0 triumph at Concordia University Wisconsin, and will take a 2-2-0 record into its home game against Carthage College (3-1-0) on Wednesday. Lake Forest won 2-1 in overtime at Carthage last year to even the all-time record with the Red Men at 7-7-1. The Foresters will also play at Benedictine University (4-1-0) on Saturday looking to end a three-game losing skid against the Eagles. Lake Forest has a 15-7-2 edge in the all-time series between the two teams. On Sunday the Foresters will be back out on Farwell Field against Carroll University (0-4-1), a former Midwest Conference member against whom Lake Forest has taken 22 of 32 all-time meetings.
The Forester volleyball team went 1-2 at the Associated Colleges of the Midwest Tournament at Colorado College last weekend and is now 3-5 on the season. The team will play at Trinity International University (6-5) Wednesday night. Lake Forest has won 23 of 34 previous meetings with the Trojans, including last year's four-set decision. Lake Forest will also travel to North Central College on Friday to take on Benedictine University (1-7) and Loras College (4-5) and will play against Saturday night at Dominican University (2-5). The Foresters are 13-23 all-time against Benedictine, 0-2 against Loras, and 2-6 against Dominican.
The Lake Forest men's golf team began its season with a tied-for-12th place finish at Carthage College's Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament last weekend. Senior Davis DeKorte finished in a tie for sixth place overall in the 20-team, 107-player field with a two-day score of 146. The team will compete in another two-day event, the Midwest Region Fall Classic, in Galena, Illinois, this Friday and Saturday. The Foresters placed in the top half of the 21-team event a year ago.
The Forester women's tennis team won two of three 5-4 decisions in Iowa last weekend and is now 6-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play this year. The team will host three MWC foes this weekend, beginning with Lawrence University (3-5, 3-2 MWC) Saturday morning. Ripon College (2-5, 0-4 MWC) will come to the College Saturday afternoon and St. Norbert College (4-2, 4-0 MWC) on Sunday. Lake Forest has won four in a row against Lawrence and 14 straight versus Ripon but has fallen to St. Norbert in each of the last four meetings. The Foresters' all-time records against the three teams are 17-12, 16-12, and 10-26, respectively.
