The Forester women's tennis team won twice at home on Saturday, sweeping Monmouth College 9-0 and defeating Illinois College 8-1 in the first Midwest Conference matches of the season.
Lake Forest was especially dominant on the day in doubles. Sophomore Margaret Bugnacki and junior Natalia Leite did not drop a game in either of their triumphs at #2 while sophomore Maria Jose Campos and freshman Sara Lopez blanked Monmouth's top tandem 8-0 and prevailed 8-1 against the Lady Blues' best. The freshman pairing of Emily Bross and Isa Hinojosa started their day with an 8-2 victory before rolling 8-0 in the afternoon.
Hinojosa and Bugnacki each lost just one game in singles on the day, posting convincing victories at #6 and #3 respectively. Leite outscored her counterparts at #4 singles 24-3 in the two matches combined while the advantage was 24-4 for Campos at #1 and Lopez at #2. Bross bested the Fighting Scots' #5 player 6-1, 6-0 before falling in a third set super tiebreaker against Illinois College.
Lake Forest improved to 4-2 on the season while Monmouth fell to 0-4 and Illinois College to 1-4.
Select Foresters will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, next weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament.
