Allison Watts celebrated her Senior Day by claiming a share of another program record Saturday in Lake Forest's 9-0 victory over Edgewood College at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
Watts, who became the Foresters' career leader in doubles wins on April 8 and overall victories Friday night, matched Christi Valicenti (2012-16) for first place in team annals in singles triumphs on Saturday after taking both sets 6-3 at #2. She is now 75-34 in singles and 86-29 in doubles over the last four years.
Watts and sophomore Tyranny Miller earned Lake Forest's first point of the match with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. Sophomore Emma Wang and freshman Tebatso Duba followed with an 8-2 victory at #3 and the team's top tandem of sophomore Julie Lord and junior Leeza Bodnar prevailed 8-5 to complete the doubles sweep.
Lord was the first to finish in singles, taking both sets 6-1 at #1, and Watts' win clinched the match for the home team. Duba did not drop a game in the first set at #3 but needed a 7-1 tiebreaker victory to take the second. Bodnar came out on top of a 6-4, 6-3 decision at #4, freshman Katie Wegrecki won 6-1, 6-3 at #6, and Wang closed out the contest with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at #5.
Ranked 17th in the Central Region, Lake Forest is now 19-3 this season. Edgewood fell to 19-6.
After claiming a Midwest Conference title with a perfect 9-0 record in league play in the fall, the Foresters will be the top seed in the four-team MWC Tournament next Thursday and will take on St. Norbert College in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will be played at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
