Sophomore Emma Wang earned her 20th singles victory without a loss this season and Lake Forest defeated visiting North Central College 7-2 Friday night at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
Wang was also victorious in doubles, teaming up with freshman Tebatso Duba on an 8-2 triumph at #3. The Foresters earned the point at #2 as well, where senior Allison Watts and sophomore Tyranny Miller doubled up their opponents 8-4, giving Watts a program record-tying 82 doubles wins in her career. The Cardinals came out on top at #1, sending the match to singles with the home team ahead 2-1.
Lake Forest won the first five singles matches that finished, beginning with a 6-1, 6-2 victory by freshman Katie Wegrecki at #6. Sophomore Julie Lord defeated North Central's top player 6-3, 6-2 and Duba prevailed 6-0, 6-3 to clinch the match. Wang's score at #5 was 6-1, 6-2 and junior Leeza Bodnar became the seventh player on the team to post a victory on the night, edging out her counterpart at #4 singles 6-2, 4-6, (10-7).
The Foresters are now 15-3 this season while North Central fell to 12-6.
Lake Forest will play a pair of matches at Carthage College next Sunday, taking on Concordia University Wisconsin at noon and the hosts at 3:00 p.m.
