Senior defenseman Kayla Griffith scored to tie the game in the second period but the Forester women's hockey team was defeated 5-2 on Saturday at Adrian College, the fourth-ranked team in the nation.
Griffith scored for the fourth time this season and her power play goal was assisted by senior forward Olivia Spellmire and sophomore defenseman Julia Unterseher.
Adrian had scored the first two goals of the afternoon before Forester sophomore forward Maddie Davis put the visitors on the scoreboard at the 12:09 mark of the opening period. Her fifth goal of the year was set up by fellow sophomore forward Kate Fanning and junior forward Amy Budde. It was the 50th career assist for Budde, who broke a tie with Griffith and two other players for fourth place in program history.
After Griffith's goal, the Bulldogs regained the lead at the 12:15 mark of the second period and made the score 4-2 with another score less than two minutes later. The home team tacked on an additional insurance goal in the third.
After being out-shot 16-6 in the first period and 10-7 in the second, Lake Forest put five shots on goal to Adrian's four in the final 20 minutes.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 9-8-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 7-3-0. Adrian improved to 11-5-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the league.
After back-to-back weekends on the road, Lake Forest will host Marian University next Friday afternoon at 4:00 and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Saturday is also the Foresters' Alumni Day and the annual Ry McCarthy Award will be presented during the first intermission.
