The 2023-24 season will be the seventh for Sean O'Malley as the Foresters' head women's golf coach and 10th year as a member of the Lake Forest College Department of Athletics.
Under O'Malley's direction, the 2022-23 Foresters placed third at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships and broke the program's 54-hole scoring record by 70 strokes. Individually, Gabrielle Krebs finished sixth at the conference tournament with the best 54-hole score (238) in program history and was named First Team All-SLIAC. Teammates Sydney Foulon and Alijah Campbell earned Second Team All-SLIAC honors by placing 13th and 15th, respectively.
The Foresters' 345.0 scoring average in 2022-23 was the second-lowest in team history and their marks in five of O'Malley's six seasons as head coach are the best in the nine-year history of the program. They turned in the top five performances at the conference meet and individual players on the team have been named all-conference 11 times with 17 conference all-academic team honors in that span.
O'Malley has been an avid golfer throughout his life. After participating in numerous junior tournaments, he went on to play varsity golf at Cleveland Saint Ignatius High School, where he helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of top-four finishes in the state of Ohio.
Following his high school career, O'Malley attended the College at Brockport, where he played hockey and graduated in 2010 with a degree in criminal justice. Throughout his college years and early hockey coaching career, he remained involved in the game of golf by developing and teaching youth in the central New York area.
O'Malley came to Lake Forest as an assistant men's hockey coach in 2014 and was named the team's head coach in 2021. He has helped lead the team to an 94-82-18 record over the last eight seasons.
He resides in Lake Forest.
