Foresters in Third after Day One of SLIAC Championships

Foresters in Third after Day One of SLIAC Championships

Junior Amanda Lee is tied for fifth in the individual standings and Lake Forest sits in third place as a team after Monday's opening round of the two-day St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Championship Tournament.

Lee recorded 12, including one on each of the first seven holes, and carded an 80 on the 5,908-yard, par-72 course at The Links in Jacksonville, Illinois. She will begin Tuesday's second and final round seven shots off the lead and ahead of all but four golfers in the 53-player field.

Fellow Forester junior Faith Jung is tied-for-eighth at the event after posting a day one round of 82 that included a pair of birdies on the back nine. Freshman Sydney Reeder had an 87 and classmate Elizabeth Santos an 88 to finish Monday tied-for-19th and tied-for-22nd, respectively, while senior Cece Cruz was fifth on the team and 25th overall with a 90.

Grinnell College leads the team standings with a first-round total of 321, a dozen shots better than second-place Illinois College. The Foresters' third-place round of 337 left them four strokes behind the Lady Blues and four ahead of Monmouth College. There are 12 programs in the league, although just 10 have the required four players to factor into the team standings.

Tuesday's play will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Lee will be starting on the first hole with the top players from Grinnell and Illinois College and the other four Foresters will be being on holes 2-5 with their counterparts from those same two schools.
