2019 SLIAC Women's Golf Championship

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will hold their first championship of the 2019 season early next week when 12 teams compete for the SLIAC Women's Golf title. The tournament will once again be held at The Links in Jacksonville, Illinois and will take place Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8. Both days will consist of 18 holes. This marks the first year since the SLIAC accepted five new affiliate members; Grinnell College, Illinois College, Knox College, Lake Forest College, and Monmouth College.

Blackburn College BEAVERS

Head Coach: John Malin

SLIAC Titles: 0

Last Year's Finish: n/a

While Blackburn has been a member of the SLIAC since the conference's inception this will be the first time they will field a women's golf team in the tournament field. The Beavers competed earlier this fall in the IC Dual where Sydney Cania led the way with a one round score of 102. Baylee Hughes was second individually for the Beavers with a 108 as the team finished with a score of 481.

Eureka College RED DEVILS

Head Coach: Chip Wilde

SLIAC Titles: 0

Last Year's Finish: 4th

Eureka will be competing in their 3rd SLIAC Tournament and looking to continue the program's improvement from year to year. Last year they cut off over 200 strokes from their previous championship score and closed out the 2018 tournament with a program low championship round of 479, concluding the tournament with a team score of 968 and finishing in 4th place.

Fontbonne University GRIFFINS

Head Coach: Lance Thornhill

SLIAC Titles: 0

Last Year's Finish: 2nd

Fontbonne finished 2nd at last year's championship and will be led by senior All-Conference perofrmer Maddi Vandervort. Vandervort earned All-Conference honors in each of the last two seasons and is currently averaging 88.8 strokes per round this season. She has been the team's top finisher in all three events this year and has a low round of 82. Grace Harlin meanwhile leads the team with an 88.3 average in just two events. The Griffins have a low round of 379 this fall.

One of five new teams to the SLIAC, Grinnell should be one of the favorites to compete for a title. The Pioneers have competed in four events this fall, placing 2nd in two of them and carding a low round of 306. Nina Kouchi will be a player to watch as she brings a 74.0 average and two tournament wins this fall into the championship. Danielle Oberlander is shooting 79.1 this fall while Julie Echikson (80.5) and Aubrie Torhorst (82.0) add to the team depth.

One of the busier teams this fall has been Illinois College, competing in six events this fall where they have four top three finishes. They have a low round of 331 this season and are consisent with 8 of 10 rounds ranging from 331 to 337. Madi Peyton has three top team finishes and carries an average of 82.2 this fall. Maggie Cockerill has two top finishes and an average of 85.8 while Brooke Metzger claimes one top finish and holds a 84.9 average.

Iowa Wesleyan University TIGERS

Head Coach: Kurt Moon

SLIAC Titles: 0

Last Year's Finish: 3rd

Iowa Wesleyan has finished 3rd at the SLIAC Championships in each of the last two years. They are a young team with just one senior (Allie Massner) on their roster of six players. Teresa Diez Dorta is the top golfer for the Tigers, carrying a 75.7 average this fall. She has finished as the top Tiger in each of their two events this fall with a low round of 75. The Tigers are coming off a low round of 369 and will look to carry that momentum into next week.

Knox is led by the duo of Shelby Keen and Samantha Nichols. Keen most recently claimed the top finish at the IC Fall Invite, shooting a two-round score of 154. She has three top team finishes and a team best 78.3 average. Nichols meanwhile has an average of 79.0 and tied with Keen for the team low round of 75 this fall. Knox best round this fall has been a 355, which they carded in the second round of last weekend's invitational.

With five events in the books this fall, Lake Forest is well prepared for the 2019 SLIAC Championships. The Foresters have three tournament wins this fall and a low round of 320. Amanda Lee leads the team with four top team finishes and an average of 84.4 strokes per round. She also carded a team low round of 76 this fall. Cece Cruz has two top finishes and an 86.7 average while Sydney Reeder is averaging 85.4 strokes per round.

MacMurray College HIGHLANDERS

Head Coach: Wade Mathis

SLIAC Titles: 0

Last Year's Finish: No Team Score

MacMurray will be familiar with the course at the championships, callint The Links their home. Lauren Anderson is a two-time All-Conference performer and will be looking to continue that streak this year. She is averaging 86 strokes per round this fall and has one top team finish. Joining her in the lineup are Kaitlyn Brown and Ayla Johnston.

Monmouth is coming off a 1st place finish at the IC Fall Invite and appear primed to challenge for a SLIAC title. The Fighting Scots have a low round of 321 this season and have won two events this fall. They are a deep team with four golfers within three strokes of each other. Haley Hoekstra leads the team with three top team finishes and an average of 82.0. Hoekstra and Morgan Bemis (85.6) have each tallied a team low round of 77 this fall. Mamie Ambrosch is second on the team with a 83.8 average while Dani Freeman is third with a 84.0 average.

Spalding University GOLDEN EAGLES

Head Coach: Gina Nuzzo

SLIAC Titles: 2

Last Year's Finish: 1st

Spalding is the two-time defending SLIAC Champion but will be playing this year with a short roster. Former SLIAC Individual Champion, Kassidy Wallin returns and leads the Golden Eagles with a 81.0 average this fall. She has a low round of 76 this season and one top team finish. She is joined in the lineup by Jillian Moorefield, who is averaging 84.3 this fall with a low round of 80.

Westminster College BLUE JAYS

Head Coach: Talisha Washington

SLIAC Titles: 0

Last Year's Finish: No Team Score

For the first time since the SLIAC started holding a Women's Golf Championship Westminster will field a full lineup. They placed 3rd at the William Woods Invite earlier this fall and will play in the IW Tiger Classic this week before entering the SLIAC Championship. Mackayla Jackson has a team best average of 105.0 and carded a low round of 103 this fall.
