Junior forward Hannah O'Day's first career double-double was not quite enough as the Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 65-57 at Cornell College on Saturday.
O'Day led the Foresters with 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. She made six of 12 field goal attempts, including four of eight from three-point range, and added a career-high-tying four assists.
Freshman guard Kelsey Burton also reached double figures in points with 11 and sophomore forward Molly Schoenlein finished with 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Jaianna Brooks led the visitors with six assists, Burton with two steals, and Schoenlein with three blocked shots, giving her a program record 41 on the season.
Lake Forest shot 39.6 percent from the floor but allowed the Rams to connect on just 31.9 percent of their field goal attempts. The Foresters, however, committed 19 turnovers while forcing just seven, allowing Cornell to attempt 19 more field goals than the visitors.
After finishing the first period trailing 16-10, the Foresters started the second quarter with a 12-2 run that put them on top by four. The Lake Forest lead was up to five at 32-37 with less than two minutes remaining before 10 straight points by Cornell to close out the half gave the home team a 37-32 edge.
The Foresters closed to within three points in the third quarter but trailed by five again when it was over. The Rams scored the first six points of the fourth and led by at least seven the rest of the way.
Lake Forest is now 11-12 overall this season and 8-7 in Midwest Conference play. Cornell improved to 16-5 overall and 12-2 in the league.
The Foresters will host a non-conference game against St. Norbert College Tuesday night at 7:30.
