Lake Forest Makes the First of Back-to-Back Trips to Ripon

Junior Yaneli Guajardo's victory in the mile highlighted the Foresters appearance at Ripon College's Red Hawk Invite on Saturday.

Guajardo's time of 5:20.12 was more than 10 seconds faster than that posted by the runner-up in the field of 22 competitors.

The top individual performance for the Forester men also came in the mile, where senior Philip Wilson completed his eight trips around the track in 4:35.19, good for third place in an event that also featured 22 runners. Sophomore Christian Reyes was one of the other 21 and finished sixth in 4:41.86.

Lake Forest's men's team also registered a third-place finish in the 4x200 relay, which sophomore Yohan Stokes and freshmen A.J. Jackson, J.R. Henderson, and Tom Schiller finished with a program record time of 1:38.00. Another Forester quartet made up of freshmen Jake De La Torre and Dante Esposito and sophomores Brandon Johnson and Logan Schmidt placed sixth in the event with a time of 1:43.18.

Adding to Guajardo's points for the Forester women were freshman Madeline Morland, who was sixth in the 800 in 2:29.25, and junior Molly Gniady, who placed eighth in the 5000 with a time of 21:00.50. In addition, the 4x400 relay team of Guajardo, Morland, and juniors Tianna Beilke and Audrey Paglia finished seventh in 4:39.09.

Lake Forest finished 10th out of 13 men's programs and a dozen women's teams at the meet. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men and St. Norbert College women were the team champions.

The Foresters will return to Ripon in a week for the Dick Hendricks Invite.
