Lake Forest College track runner Jorge Villanueva was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance in the 10,000 meter run at last Saturday's Wheaton Invitational.
Villanueva completed 25 laps around the track in 31:35.33, more than 13 seconds faster than the runner-up in the seven-man field. He improved on the program record he set last season by 32 seconds and currently ranks first in the Midwest Conference in the event by 52 seconds. In addition, his time ranks 33rd in the nation so far this season.
Villanueva was also named MWC Track Performer of the Week on Tuesday, becoming the first Forester to earn the award since distance only track was added to the slate of varsity programming at the College.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Villanueva is now a three-time honoree, having earned the award twice during the cross country season last fall.
