The Lake Forest women's swimming and diving team completed a clean sweep of the Monmouth Fighting Scots and the Forester men were able to touch first in all but two events in the teams' home opener on Saturday.
Junior Helena Blumenau competed in and won the women's 800 and 400 freestyle events during the meet, and then upon the completition of the meet, raced a solo time trial in an attempt to break the pool's 200 backstroke record. She succeeded in lowering the mark by over three seconds. The previous record was 2:27.21 and was set in 1996 by Lake Forest College Hall of Famer Tobi Limke '97; Blumenau's new record sits at 2:23.83.
Among the Foresters who won both of their individual events were sophomore Ally McCarthy, who touched first in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Her teammate junior Violet Anderson was found the wall first in both the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle.
On the men's side of the meet, senior captain Graeme Witte won the 50 and 400 freestyles for the Foresters; additionally, he added another victory to his list as he was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay. Freshman Tucker Potts also had two wins on the day when he finished first in the 200 IM and joined Witte in the 200 freestyle relay.
Diving for the Foresters, senior McKinley Scheppler placed first on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
The two victories were Vadim Tashlitsky's 99th and 100th combined dual meet wins as head coach of the men's and women's swimming and diving program.
The Foresters travel to Monmouth College for the Monmouth Invite next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
