Lake Forest College softball players Kat Beall and Missy Dieckman-Meyer were named Midwest Conference Position Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday for their performance in a pair of games on Sunday.
The Foresters were defeated 6-5 by Amherst to open the season early Sunday morning. Beall, a junior shortstop, drove in a pair of runs with a double, scored, and also drew a base on balls and was hit by a pitch during her four plate appearances in the contest.
Dieckman-Meyer, a freshman pitcher, tossed a four-hit shutout in the her collegiate debut as Lake Forest evened its record with a 7-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls later on Sunday. She struck out six hitters, walked just one, and retired the final nine batters she faced in the game. Beall was once again 1-for-2 with a two-run double and a walk. She reached base safely in five of seven plate appearances and drove in four runs on the day.
