For his undefeated performance at this weekend's Midwest Conference Team and Individual Tournaments, Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk of Forester men's tennis was named men's Forester Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
In the semifinals of the team tournament, #1 doubles team Vyshyvanyuk and sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy did not drop a game against Ripon College. Vyshyvanyuk then clinched his singles match by posting 6-0, 6-0 victory. In the team finals against Grinnell College, the Vyshyvanyuk-Tulchinskiy team defeated the Pioneers' best duo 8-4. He led 6-2, 5-2 in his #1 singles spot when the contest ended.
In the individual doubles semifinals, Vyshyvanyuk and Tulchinskiy rolled 8-1 against the best from Lawrence University to reach the championship match. Taking on the their counterparts from Grinnell for the second time this weekend, they posted an 8-3 victory to secure the title.
As the top seed at individual singles, Vyshyvanyuk defeated the top player from Lawrence 6-3, 6-3 in their semifinal match. A 6-4, 6-3 triumph over his counterpart from Grinnell in the final solidified his status as the best player in the league this season.
Forester Athletes of the Week are voted for by the athletic department on Tuesdays.
