The first goal as a Forester for senior Marcos Hernandez was the official game-winner in Saturday's 3-0 triumph over visiting Illinois College.
Playing in the final regular season home game of his career, Hernandez headed in a corner kick from junior Tate Rosenhagen 10 minutes and 33 seconds into the contest.
Fellow seniors Lucas Geib and Gaston Aubert combined for the second score just three minutes later. Aubert sent a centering pass just in front of the goal, where it was blocked but not controlled by a Blueboy defender. Geib was there to kick in his seventh score of the season and make the score 2-0.
Less than two minutes passed before the home team struck again, this time on the first goal as a Forester for junior Alen Hataric. Aubert and Geib set up the score.
Lake Forest had a 37-1 advantage in shots in the contest with Illinois College's only attempt saved by Forester freshman Giuseppe Scalera in his collegiate debut. He played the final 18 minutes in relief of junior Jan Roessler, who earned the victory and improved her goals against average on the year to 1.03.
Hernandez, Geib, Aubert, and classmates Alex Armas, Ryo Kanesaka, and Jack Carlson were recognized before the Senior Day game.
The Foresters are now 8-7-1 overall and 6-1-0 in Midwest Conference play this season with the victory securing their spot in the four-team MWC Tournament. Illinois College fell to 6-11-2 overall and 2-6-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will travel to Ripon College for another conference contest Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
