Foresters Score Six Times in Victory over Illinois Tech

Junior Elyas Ingram assisted on half of the Lake Forest College men's soccer team's goals in a 6-2 triumph over Illinois Institute of Technology at home on Tuesday.

Ingram raced up the right side of the field, cut in, and passed the ball to freshman Lucas Geib, who settled it and scored the game's first goal less than six minutes into the contest. It was the fourth score of the year for Geib with all four coming in the last five games.

The home team doubled the lead just two-and-a-half minutes later when an Illinois Tech attempt at a clear came to Forester senior Ellis Rutili, who carried the ball into the box and blasted it into the left side of the goal from 20 yards out.

Junior John Cappucitti accounted for the next two goals. He outran the Scarlet Hawks defenders up the middle of the field and chipped the ball over the goalie at the game's 28:30 mark. The scored remained 3-0 for the remainder of the first half. Junior Osvaldo Lara Soria then set up Cappuccitti's second score of the game and team-high 10th this season at the 49:10 mark. Lara Soria's cross from the right side of the field was directed at the far post, where Cappuccitti headed it in.

Rutilli struck for the second time on the day and seventh this season at 53:52. Ingram's free kick from 50 yards out came down just in front of the goal and Rutili was there to head it in.

After a pair of Illinois Tech goals made the score 5-2, Forester sophomore Gaston Aubert closed out the scoring with his seventh of the year. He received a cross from Ingram on the left side of the top of the box and sent it into the right side of the goal.

Three goalkeepers saw action for Lake Forest in the contest, beginning with sophomore Tero Elias, who was not forced to make a save in the game's first 55:15. Classmate Elvin Husetovic played the next 20:17 and junior Josh Geiger the game's final 14:28.

The Foresters out-shot the Scarlet Hawks 12-9 in the first half and 9-4 in the second.

Lake Forest improved to 10-7-0 on the season while Illinois Tech fell to 7-9-1.

The Foresters will close out the regular Sunday at noon against visiting Ripon College. A victory, coupled with a Knox College loss or tie against St. Norbert College on Saturday, would give Lake Forest the program's third Midwest Conference title in the last three years and the 17th in team history.
