The Forester men's hockey team had the advantage on the shot chart but not the scoreboard in a 3-0 loss at Trine University Saturday night.
The first two Thunder goals came on the power play, one at 5:04 in the opening period and another at 11:35 in the third. An empty net goal with 1:59 to play closed out the scoring.
Lake Forest outshot the home team 10-8 in the game's first 20 minutes and 20-4 in the second stanza. Trine turned the table in the third, putting 13 shots on target to the Foresters' five.
The Foresters are now 10-8-5 overall this season and still in second place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association South Division standings at 8-5-3 in league play. Trine improved to 9-12-2 overall and 5-10-1 in the conference.
Lake Forest will close out the regular season against Aurora University next weekend, Friday night on the road and Saturday at home. Both contests will begin at 7:00. A victory or tie in either one would clinch home ice for the Foresters in the NCHA Harris Cup quarterfinals the following weekend.
