Lake Forest College goaltender George Argiropoulos was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping his team earn three points on the road over the weekend.
Argiropoulos stopped 29 of 30 shots on goal Friday night as the Foresters skated to a 1-1 at St. Norbert College, the sixth-ranked team in the nation. After surrendering a score early in the second period, the senior kept the game close until the visitors tied it with just 48.6 seconds to play in regulation. Three of his saves came in the five-minute overtime period.
The Foresters played another close game on Saturday at Finlandia University, netting the game-winning goal 56 seconds into overtime. Argiropoulos faced 30 shots on goal once again and turned away 28 of them to earn the 3-2 victory.
Argiropoulos is now 2-1-2 with a 2.14 goals against average and .934 save percentage this season.
NCHA Players of the Week are selected by the league's directors of public relations and sports information.
