Behind the fourth-lowest round in program history, the Lake Forest College men's golf team placed sixth at the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic over the weekend.
After posted a team score of 314 in Friday's opening round, the Foresters improved by 14 strokes with a 300 on Saturday. The team has finished in fewer than 300 shots just three times with the record of 296 set five years ago. This weekend's 36-hole score of 314 tied the fifth-best two-round posting in school history.
Junior Jack Dwyer turned in the team's top round of the tournament with a 1-under 70 on Saturday. He carded three birdies, including one on the 600-yard par-5 18th to finish off his best round as a Forester.
Dwyer tied for 11th in the 88-player field with a two-day score of 148 while fellow junior James Johnson was a shot better and tied-for-8th. Johnson matched his career-best round with a 72 on Friday and turned in a 75 on Saturday.
Junior Connor Lindley was next on the squad and tied-for-45th in the tournament with a 161. He fired a 78 on Friday.
Sophomore Tyler Nielsen's entered Saturday with 84 as his best collegiate round. He bettered that mark by seven strokes and tied-for-51st in the field with a two-day score of 163.
Fellow sophomore Ryan Higgins was two shots behind Nielsen with a 165.
The top four teams in the event were separated by just four strokes with Edgewood leading the way with a score of 593. Lake Forest was 21 shots off the lead.
The Foresters will be back in action at Aurora University's Spartan Double Gun. The tournament will be played at Aurora Country Club and is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.
