The Lake Forest College Football team was defeated 31-7 by visiting Monmouth College on Saturday. Forester senior linebacker John Preston had a game-high 12 tackles and an interception in the contest.
Preston now has 245 tackles in his career, the 10th-highest total in program history. He leads the Foresters with 52 stops in six games this season.
Preston's interception was one of four turnovers forced by the home team. Junior safety Pat Clark picked off his team-high fourth pass of the year and eighth of his career, tying him for ninth in team history. He also reached double figures with 10 tackles in the game. Freshman cornerback Chase Slagboom added his first career interception and freshman defensive lineman Tim Finucane recovered a fumble.
Lake Forest's only score of the day was a 29-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Anthoney Prestly to junior wide receiver George Vidas with 11 seconds left in the game.
Monmouth took the early lead on a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown with 7:54 to play in the opening quarter. The Fighting Scots added a 33-yard field goal early in the second quarter and a tourchdown with six minutes remaining in the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, the visitors added to their lead with a pair of touchdown runs in the fourth.
Forester junior Jon Gurchak had a good day punting, averaging 38.9 yards on seven attempts.
Lake Forest's leading rusher was sophomore tailback Charlie Quinn, who ran for 65 yards and added two recptions for eight yards. Vidas had two receptions for 43 yards and sophomore wideout Alex Pasiewicz also caught a pair of passes for 21 yards.
The loss drops the Foresters' overall record to 2-4 and evens their Midwest Conference South Division mark at 1-1. Monmouth is now 4-2 overall and also 1-1 in divisional play.
Lake Forest will play at Illinois College next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
