Foresters Suffer Heartbreaking Loss at Beloit

Foresters Suffer Heartbreaking Loss at Beloit

The Lake Forest College football team dropped a 27-24 decision in overtime at Beloit College on Saturday. A 15-yard interception return for a touchdown by sophomore defensive lineman Brendan Power gave the Foresters a 24-14 advantage in the fourth quarter but they were unable to hold on to the lead.

From his spot on the left end of the defensive line, Power realized the play was a throw to the right flat, stepped in front of the pass, and ran 15 yards untouched to the end zone for his first career touchdown. It was one of four Forester interceptions in the game. Junior safety Pat Clark and junior cornerback Chris Rantis each picked off his second pass of the season and sophomore defensive lineman Dylan Ernst grabbed the first of his career.

A Beloit touchdown with 3:53 to play cut the Lake Forest lead to three points and a 37-yard Buccaneer field goal with 59 seconds on the clock tied the score.

Lake Forest drove to the Beloit 24 in the final minute but an interception at the 10 with 13 seconds left ended the scoring opportunity.

After the Foresters were unsuccessful on a 40-yard field goal on their overtime possession, Beloit ran the ball three times and connected on a 33-yarder for the victory.

Lake Forest junior quarterback Anthoney Prestly completed 15 passes for a career-high 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also added 43 yards on the ground. Freshman tailback George Edlund led the visitors with 46 rushing yards on just eight attempts. Sophomore wide receiver Willie McIntyre caught six passes for 75 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown reception that tied the game at seven late in the first quarter. Junior wideout Mike Rantis also covered 75 yards on just two receptions. He scored on a 68-yard pass play on the first snap of the second half, giving the Foresters a 17-7 advantage.

The Forester defense was led by senior linebacker Jake Julius and senior safety Joey Kropp, who each finished with 10 tackles. It was a career-high for Julius.

Lake Forest fell to 1-3 on the season while the Buccaneers raised their record to 2-1.

After a weekend off, the Foresters will begin their Midwest Conference South Division schedule on Saturday, October 11, at Knox College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
