GRINNELL, Iowa — The Midwest Conference (MWC) Presidents’ Council announced today that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and with the safety and well-being of its students and campus communities being of upmost importance, it will cancel all remaining regular season and post-season competitions – both league and non-league - for 2020 spring sports. In addition, the Council unanimously voted to suspend all in-person athletically-related activities through the conclusion of the Spring 2020 season.

“Ultimately, I don’t believe the decision to cancel was in and of itself the hardest part for our membership,” said MWC Executive Director Heather Benning. “I think the most challenging aspect was processing what the decision would mean for our hundreds of athletes, their families and friends and our campus communities – it is especially difficult to think about our seniors who may never get to realize their final college athletic season.”

The MWC is working with member institutions and the NCAA regarding eligibility for all student-athletes affected by the cancellation of spring sports. As it was announced on March 13, the NCAA DIII Administrative Committee approved a blanket waiver for all student-athletes participating in spring sports reinstating the season of participation and waiving the use of the spring term toward their limit of 10 semesters/15 quarters.
