Lake Forest College cross country runner Yaneli Guajardo was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday after finishing first in Friday's Forester Invitational.
Guajardo outran the other 50 participants in the race, completing the 6-kilometer course in 23:54.7, more than 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up. The junior also led the Foresters to first place in the team standings, edging out Elmhurst College by just four points.
It was the first career victory for Guajardo, who has been the runner-up in a race twice and posted 11 top-15 finishes prior to Friday.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league office. Guajardo also earned the award once last season.
