Lake Forest College cross country runner Jonathan Stern was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his victorious performance in last Friday's Forester Invitational.
Stern, a senior, completed the 8-kilometer course at Foss Park Golf Club in 26 minutes and 44.4 seconds, 20 seconds faster than the runner-up in Lake Forest's first home meet in six years. There were 57 runners in the race.
The Foresters also won the meet as a team with just 29 points, 23 fewer than second-place Harper College.
It was Stern's second career first-place finish in an invitational and the 13th time in his career that he completed a race in less than 27 minutes. His time on Friday was just two seconds away from ranking among the top 25 in team history, a list which already includes 10 of his performances.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Stern was also named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Monday.
