Lake Forest Competes at Knight Invitational

The Forester cross country teams traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan for Calvin College's Knights Invitational on Saturday. The women and men each placed 16th and junior Kristen Whitney ran the 12th-fastest 5-kilometer time in program history.

Whitney finished 65th out of 319 runners after completing the course in 19:37.6. Fellow juniors Andrea Lorch and Abigail Toohey were next on the team, placing 120th in 20:15.0 and 143rd in 20:31.8, respectively. Sophomore Alexia Leonardo was 157th in 20:40.6 and classmate Cassie Lira rounded out the Foresters' top five in 169th place with a time of 20:54.2.

Sophomore Jonathan Stern was the top finisher on the Lake Forest men's team for the second straight week. He finished 78th out of 355 competitors with an 8-kilometer time of 26:42.3. Freshman Jorge Villanueva was 100th in 27:02.4 and junior Sintayehu Regassa 118th with a time of 27:15.6. Fellow junior Rocco DiMatteo placed 135th in 27:25.9 and Mansur Soeleman, another junior, was the team's fifth runner in 175th place with a time of 27:53.6.

Aquinas College won the women's competition, followed by Calvin and Hope College. Calvin was first in the men's team standings, just ahead of Ohio Northern University and Allegheny College.

The Foresters will compete again next Saturday at Wheaton College's Gil Dodds Invitational. The meet will begin at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Farm in Warrenville, Illinois.
