The Forester volleyball team was defeated in three sets at Cornell College on Saturday, ending Lake Forest's four-match winning streak.
Junior Mary Gegen led the visitors with nine kills while classmate Grace Franz and senior Madison Stevens each added seven. Sophomore Juli Barrientos finished with a team-high 14 assists while senior Izzi Visnjevac paced the squad with eight digs.
Cornell won seven of the last eight points to take the opening set 25-18. The Rams jumped out to a commanding 16-3 lead in set two, which ended at 25-12 in favor of the home team. The third set was closer and the Foresters trailed by just two at 18-16 before Cornell used a 5-1 run to pull away. The final set score was 25-21.
Lake Forest is now 8-11 overall this season and 2-1 in Midwest Conference play. Cornell improved to 13-5 overall with victories in each of the team's four league matches.
The Foresters will play a non-conference match at Alverno College Tuesday night at 7:00.
