Foresters Fall in Five at Wheaton

The Lake Forest College volleyball team took two of the first three sets but dropped the last two at Wheaton College Wednesday night.

The Foresters set several season-highs in the contest, including junior libero Izzi Visnjevac's 23 digs. Freshman Juli Barrientos was next on the team with 18 digs and her 34 assists on the night are the most by a Lake Forest player so far this year. Sophomore Mary Gegen established a new career-high with 18 kills while junior Madison Stevens matched her best with 12.

The opening set was tied eight times, the last at 20-20, before the Foresters won five of the next seven points to pull ahead in the match.

Lake Forest lost the first four points of set two but came back and took a 12-10 lead. The score was tied 17-17 when the home team went on a 5-1 run and led the rest of the way.

The Foresters won the first three points and led throughout the third set. The margin eventually grew to nine points and the visitors held on to regain their one-set lead.

Wheaton rattled off seven straight points early in the fourth set, continued to pull away, and prevailed 25-13 to even the match.

Lake Forest started set five with four straight points and led 6-2 before the Thunder closed out the contest with a 13-3 run.

The 22-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-13, 15-9 loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 4-12 while Wheaton improved to 8-7.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference at Ripon CollegeFriday night at 7:00.
