Foresters Fall to MSOE in Season Opener

The Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 by Milwaukee School of Engineering in its first match of the season on Saturday.

Freshman Mary Gegen led the home team with eight kills on the afternoon, including five in the opening set. Seniors Olivia Smith and Isabel Donnelly added six kills apiece and Donnelly also served up four aces. Junior Kaity Mueller and senior setter Allyson Richards tied for team-high honors with 10 digs apiece.

The Foresters won five straight points early in the match and led the first set 9-7 before seven points in a row for the Raiders put them ahead for good. The visitors led by as many as seven before taking the set 25-19.

MSOE had a narrow one-point lead early in set two before pulling away with another 7-0 run. The Foresters fought off seven straight set points later on before finally surrendering the Raiders' 25th point.

The Raiders won the first four points and led throughout the third set. A five-point run by Lake Forest made the score 11-8 but the home team would get no closer.

MSOE improved to 3-1 on the year.

The Foresters will host Benedictine University Tuesday night at 7:00.
