Lake Forest Takes One of Three in Milwaukee over the Weekend

Despite winning more sets than they lost at the event, the Foresters left the Milwaukee Invitational on Saturday have dropped two of three matches. They prevailed in three sets at Alverno College on Friday before falling in five against host Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wheaton College on Saturday.

Senior Hannah Hornacek led Lake Forest with 13 kills against MSOE, 10 against Wheaton, and 26 for the weekend. She also finished the event with six blocks, one fewer than junior Isabel Donnelly. Donnelly also recorded 23 kills and served up four aces. Freshman Madison Stevens and junior Olivia Drevs added 22 kills apiece while freshman Haley Bryant pounded out 17 of her 20 at Alverno.

Lake Forest's regular setters, junior Hannah Nauert and Olivia Rhodes, were nearly even on the weekend with Nauert edging out Rhodes 50-49.

Freshman Izzi Visnjevac led the Foresters with 11 digs on Friday, 16 against MSOE, and a season-high 31 against Wheaton. She also had a team-high six aces on the weekend.

After rolling to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 victory at Alverno on Friday, Lake Forest faced much stiffer competition on Saturday. The Foresters dropped the first set 25-20 and the second 25-21 to MSOE before taking the third 25-10 and the fourth 25-14. The visitors led 8-7 in the fifth before the Raiders won eight of the next 12 points and the match. Wheaton opened with a 25-21 victory in set one but the Foresters rebounded and took the second 25-18 and the third 25-15. The Thunder won 25-21 again in the fourth and closed out the match with seven consecutive points in a 15-5 triumph in set five.

Lake Forest's record on the season is now even at 4-4.

The Foresters' next match will be played at Carthage College Wednesday night at 7:00.
