Senior libero Emily Witz reached double figures in digs again but the Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated 25-16, 25-16. 25-20 by Dominican University at home on Saturday.

Witz tallied 10 digs to extend her season-opening streak of matches with at least that number to 12. She has also recorded at least one ace in the last 10 contests after serving up a pair against Dominican.

Lake Forest was also led by sophomore Olivia Smith's eight kills and junior Olivia Rhodes' 13 assists.

The visitors put set one out of reach with a seven-point run early at the beginning and six straight points after the Foresters trimmed the margin to four points at 15-11.

Lake Forest led by a pair of points early in the second set but an 8-1 run by the Stars quickly turned the tide in their favor. The Foresters won consecutive points just twice the rest of the way as Dominican gradually pulled away.

The third set was much like the second early on, with the home team taking a two-point lead, only to have Dominican take eight of the next nine. Lake Forest eventually closed to within four at 20-16 before alternating two-point runs the rest of the way.

The Foresters are now 4-8 on the season while Dominican improved to 7-5.

Lake Forest will play three times next weekend, beginning with Friday night's 7:30 match at Illinois Institute of Technology. The Foresters will then travel to Concordia University Chicago on Saturday to take on Alverno College at 2:00 p.m. and the hosts at 4:00.
