Cornell Ends Lake Forest's Season at MWC Tournament

The Forester volleyball team was defeated in three sets at Midwest Conference champion Cornell College in the semifinals of the MWC Tournament Friday night. Lake Forest senior setter Torie Pasiewicz had 16 assists on the night and 2,492 in her career.

Pasiewicz ranks third in program history in career assists and 10th with 1,048 digs.

Sophomore Brittany Avonts led Lake Forest with seven kills on the night and sophomore Paige Jespersen added five. Jespersen also joined freshman Lexi Kleva and junior Brianne Honda with a team-high five digs.

Avonts started the match with a kill but its was the Foresters' only lead of the opening set. Cornell was ahead 9-6 before going on a 16-4 run to take the set.

The Rams won the first eight and 12 of the first 13 points in the second set. An 8-1 run later in the set made the 21-5 and the home team cruised the rest of the way.

Lake Forest's last lead of the night was at 5-4 in the third set. Cornell earned 21 of the next 29 points to take the match.

The Foresters' season ends with a 13-15 record while Cornell advances to Saturday's MWC Tournament final with St. Norbert College with a mark of 23-6.

Pasiewicz and fellow seniors Taylor Bradbury and Kaitlyn Ladao are the only three players Lake Forest will lose to graduation in May.
