Foresters Score Second Five-Set Win of the Weekend

The Lake Forest College volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit to win 19-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-16, 15-9 at Knox College on Saturday after winning in five sets at Monmouth College Friday night. Forester senior setter Torie Pasiewicz recorded a season-high 44 assists on Saturday and served up her 100th career ace.

Pasiewicz also had five kills and reached double figures in digs for the third straight match with 11. Her ace midway through the third set was her 100th as a Forester.

Sophomore Brittany Avonts led Lake Forest with 15 kills on Saturday. She also added a pair of blocks. Junior Erin Sully was next on the team with 10 kills and, with 11 digs, she posted her sixth career double-double but first in more than a year. Junior Brianne Honda led the visitors with three aces and 15 digs.

Knox jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the opening set. The Foresters closed to within three points at 19-16 bu the home team held on for the victory.

Set two was tied nine times, the last at 17-17, before the Prairie Fire won six of seven points to pull away and eventualy take a two-sets-to-none lead.

The Foresters broke a 6-6 tie with a 12-3 run in the third set. Knox pulled back to within six points at 19-13 before Lake Forest took six of seven points and the set. Avonts and Sully each had a pair of kills during the final 6-1 run.

The visitors repeated their 6-1 run to open the fourth set and gradually pulled away to even the match at two sets apiece.

Knox won the first point of the fifth set but the Foresters earned the next three and led the rest of the way. Their lead was three points at 10-7 before going on a 5-2 run to close out he match. Avonts had three kills during the final set.

Lake Forest extended its winning streak to six matches and is now 10-11 overall and 4-0 in Midwest Conference play this season. Knox fell to 3-21 overall and 1-4 in the league.

The Foresters will continue conference play next weekend against visiting Grinnell College Friday night at 7:00 and Cornell College at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
