Foresters Cruise to Victory at Mount Mary

The Lake Forest College volleyball team won 25-3, 25-6. 25-22 at Mount Mary University Wednesday night. Senior setter finished the match with 20 assists, a team-high nine digs, and a career-high four of the Foresters' 17 aces.

Sophomore Paige Jespersen actually led the Foresters with a career-high six aces and she now has a dozen in the last three contests combined. Jespersen also recorded six kills and five digs.

Junior Erin Sully matched Pasiewicz's four aces and sophomore Brittany Avonts added two. The team's 17 aces ties the fifth-highest total in school history in any match and matches the third-best mark for a three-set contest.

Sophomore Brittany Avonts led the Foresters' with 13 kills and, with just two errors in 16 attempts, posted a .688 hitting percentage. It was the second-highest single-match hitting percentage of Avonts' career and matched the ninth-best mark in team history.

Lake Forest started strong, winning the first seven points of the match and jumping out to a 19-1 lead in the opening set. A kill by freshman Rebecca Lynch closed out the set.

The second set was similar, with the visitors taking the first 10 points and later leading 20-2. The teams traded points the rest of the way with a Jespersen kill finishing it off.

The home team led 11-6 in the third set before a 10-1 run helped give the Foresters the lead for good. Mount Mary closed to within a point at 19-18 and again at 23-22 before a kill by Avonts and an ace by Sully ended the match.

Lake Forest is now 3-10 on the season while Mount Mary fell to 0-9.

The Forester will play a pair of matches at the Red & Black Triangular at North Central College on Friday. Lake Forest will take on Benedictine University at 6:00 p.m. and the hosts at 8:00.
