Carroll Spoils Foresters' Home Finale

The Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18 by visiting Carroll University Wednesday night. It was the final home match for Forester senior setter Victoria Drasler.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 11-14 and Midwest Conference mark to 5-4. Carroll, which secured a berth in next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament with the win, finished the regular season 18-11 overall and 8-2 in the league.

Drasler finished with 14 assists on the night and junior setter Torie Pasiewicz led Lake Forest with 20. She also had a team-high 12 digs and three of the squad's 10 aces. Sophomores K.C. Wenson and Natalie Literski and freshman Brittany Avonts served up two aces apiece and Avonts pounded out a dozen kills. Avonts and sophomore Bailey Everhart added four bocks apiece.

The first set was tied nine times, the last at 18-18, before Carroll closed it out with a 7-2 run.

The second set was similar, with 11 ties and another 7-2 run by the visitors to take a 2-0 lead.

Trailing 12-11 in set three, the Foresters rattled off six straight points to take the lead. Lake Forest was ahead 20-14 before Carroll cut the lead to a single point at 22-21. However, a kill by Avonts, a Pioneer attack error, and a kill by sophomore Erin Sully gave the Foresters the set and kept the match going.

The home team held a 13-12 lead in set four when Carroll won six straight points and never looked back. The Foresters trimmed the margin to three at 20-17 but would get no closer.

Lake Forest was eliminated from MWC Tournament contention and will finish the 2013 season at Beloit College on Saturday. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
