Lake Forest Sweeps Illinois College

The Forester volleyball team defeated visiting Illinois College 25-17, 25-15, 25-17 Saturday afternoon. Junior Taylor Bradbury led the home team and matched her career-high with three aces in the contest.

Bradbury's first ace of the day came during a 6-0 Forester run to close out the first set. The home team had jumped out to an 8-3 lead but the Lady Blues battled back and led by two at 14-12. Lake Forest won the next four and 13 of the next16 points to take the set.

Illinois College led 6-2 early in the second set but won back-to-back points just once the rest of the way. The Foresters took the lead for good at 10-9 and began a 10-3 run on a kill by freshman Brittany Avonts. Avonts also had a pair of kills during a 5-0 run by the home team to close out the set.

Lake Forest used a 5-0 run in the third set to take an 8-point advantage (14-6) and led by at least four points the rest of the way. A kill by sophomore Natalie Literski finished off the match.

Avonts led all players in the match with nine kills and sophomores K.C. Wenson and Erin Sully added eight and seven, respectively. Avonts and Wenson were each a part of four of the Foresters' eight blocks and Avonts added a pair of aces. Senior Victoria Drasler had a match-high 15 assists and junior Torie Pasiewicz added 14. Sophomore Brianne Honda lad the home team with 10 digs.

The Foresters are now 11-13 overall and 5-3 in Midwest Conference play. Illinois College finished the season 5-19 overall and 1-9 in the league.

Lake Forest will host Carroll University (17-11, 7-2 MWC) Wednesday night at 7:00.
