Foresters Serve Up 15 Aces, Rout Mount Mary

The Lake Forest College volleyball team defeated visiting Mount Mary University 25-9, 25-17, 25-7 Tuesday night. Freshman Brittany Avonts had half of the Foresters' 38 kills and added three aces on the night.

Avonts pounded out a season-high 19 kills in just 28 attempts and posted a .429 hitting percentage in the match. She also recorded three of the team's 15 aces.

Sophomore Erin Sully led the Foresters with four aces and senoir Victoria Drasler added three. Junior Torie Pasiewicz tallied 21 assists and Drasler 10. Junior Taylor Bradbury finished with a team-high 16 digs.

The Blue Angels won the first point of opening set, which gave them their only lead of the night. Lake Forest took the next four, gradually increased the lead to seven (15-8), and then rattled off nine straight points to put the score out of reach. Avonts had four kills during that span and added another on set point.

The Foresters scored the first three points of set two and quickly jumped out to an 11-3 lead. Mount Mary pulled to within four at 12-8 and trailed by just five (20-15) before the home team took five of the next seven points to close out the set.

Lake Forest dominated the third set from the beginning and three straight aces by Sully put the Foresters ahead 18-3. The score was 23-7 before a kill by sophomore libero Brianne Honda and an ace by Avonts finished off the match.

The Foresters are now 3-5 on the season while Mount Mary fell to 0-4.

Lake Forest will play four times at the Associated College's of the Midwest Tournament at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, this weekend. The Foresters will take on Carleton College Saturday afternoon at 12:30 and Coe College at 3:00. They will also face the hosts at 10:00 Sunday morning and Grinnell College at 12:30 that afternoon.
