Foresters Sweep Lawrence, Raise Record to 14-8

The Lake Forest College volleyball team defeated visitors Lawrence University 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 on Saturday in the Foresters' final home match of the season. Senior Tia Rupnik led all players in the match with 19 digs and three aces.

Forester sophomore Torie Pasiewicz and senior Megan Trubich also reached double figures in digs with 13 and 10, respectively. Senior Molly McCloskey led Lake Forest in kills with 11 while classmate Cori Cooper added nine and Trubich eight. Pasiewicz had a match-high 35 assists and senior Kristen Braun recorded three blocks.

Lake Forest held a slim 16-15 lead in the opening set before a pair of Cooper kills during a 5-0 run made the margin more comfortable. A kill by McCloskey made it 24-17 and a Lawrence attack error gave the home team set point.

Another 5-0 Forester run broke an 8-8 tie in the second set and Lake Forest led the rest of the way. The score was 22-19 before the home team closed out the set with kills by McCloskey and Pasiewicz and another attack error by the Vikings.

Lawrence won the first point in the final set but Lake Forest scored the next five and 13 of the next 16 to pull ahead 13-4. Four straight Forester points later in the set made the score 20-8 and McCloskey finished off the victory with her 11th kill of the afternoon.

The Foresters are now 14-8 overall and 4-2 in Midwest Conference play this season. Lawrence fell to 6-13 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Lake Forest will continue conference play at Illinois College next Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
