Lake Forest Defeats Marian in Final Non-Conference Match of the Regular Season

The Forester volleyball team prevailed 25-8, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15 over visiting Marian University Wednesday night. Lake Forest senior Megan Trubich matched her season-high with 10 kills in the contest.

It was actually the fourth 10-kill performance this year for Trubich, who committed just two errors in 28 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage on the night.

Forester senior Molly McCloskey actually led all players in the match with 17 kills and she added 15 digs and a team-high four aces. Classmate Tia Rupnik finished with a match-high 21 digs and sophomores Torie Pasiewicz and Brooke Perkins added 17 and 12, respectively. Pasiewicz talled 42 assists and had two aces.

The opening set was all Lake Forest, as the home team jumped out to an 8-1 lead and, without losing consecutive points at all in the set, ran away it for a 1-0 lead.

The Foresters led 6-3 early in the second set but the Sabres rattled off four straight points to take their first lead of the match. With the score tied at 11, Marian earned three straight points and led the rest of the way, increacing their advantage to as many as six points (23-17) before tying the match at one set apiece.

The Sabres led 7-1 early in the third set and then 14-7 later on before a 6-0 Forester run brought the home team to within one. Lake Forest eventually tied the score at 18 and it was knotted again at 19 before kills by Forester seniors Cori Cooper and Courtney Faulstick gave the home team the lead for good. A kill by McCloskey closed out the set and gave Lake Forest a 2-1 lead in the match.

Six straight points put the Foresters ahead 10-4 early in the fourth set and an 11-1 run a few minutes later made the score 21-7. Marian earned eight of the next 11 points but Pasiewicz set up Faulstick with the kill that closed out the victory.

Lake Forest is now 13-7 overall while Marian fell to 13-11.

The Foresters, who are done with the non-Midwest Conference portion of their 2012 regular season schedule, will host St. Norbert College at 7:00 Friday night and Lawrence University Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
