Foresters Defeat MSOE in Five Sets

The Lake Forest College volleyball team posted a 25-17, 16-25, 30-28, 24-26, 15-8 victory over visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering Tuesday night. Junior Molly McCloskey led the Foresters with a career-high 24 kills.

McCloskey also recorded 18 digs and added a pair of aces. Fellow junior Cori Cooper was next on the squad with 14 kills and she also chipped in with a dozen digs. Tia Rupnik, another junior, tallied a team-high 19 digs while freshmen Torie Pasiewicz and Brooke Perkins added 17 and 13, respectively. Sophomore Tori Drasler led the Foresters with 22 assist, one more than Pasiewicz.

Set one was close until Lake Forest, leading 14-13 out-scored the Raiders 11-4 the rest of the way. McCloskey had five kills and Pasiewicz recorded seven assists in the set.

A 12-4 run by M.S.O.E. in the middle of set two made the score 22-12 and the Raiders finished it off to even the match at a set apiece.

Neither team led by more than three points in the third set, which was the longest of the season for the Foresters. Lake Forest led 22-20 before surrendering four straight points. The home team fended off set point four times and finally converted on their third such opportunity to claim the 30-28 win. Cooper had six kills in the set, including the winner.

McCloskey had nine kills and Drasler tallied eight assists in set four but it was not quite enough for the Foresters. Lake Forest led 14-8 before a 12-3 Raider run put the visitors on top 20-17. The Foresters pulled back ahead 23-22 before M.S.O.E. scored four of the next five points to once again even the match at two sets each.

Lake Forest won the first four points of the fifth and final set and led 8-2 when the visitors called their first time out. The Foresters lost the next points but then won the next four to take a 12-3 lead and force the Raiders final time out. M.S.O.E. cut the lead to 14-8 before Forester junior Courtney Faulstick's career-high ninth kill of the match closed it out.

Lake Forest will travel to North Central College for the annual Red & Black Triangular on Saturday. The Foresters will take on Benedictine University at noon and North Central at 2:00 p.m.
