Foresters Undefeated on Day One of MWC Individual Tournaments

The first two rounds of singles and opening round of doubles at the 2022 Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments were played on Saturday and Lake Forest had players advance at every position in the lineup.

Junior Margaret Bugnacki was the only Forester with an opening round bye in singles and she added a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the semifinals to advance to Sunday's final.

Fellow junior Maria Jose Campos turned in a pair of convincing victories at #1 singles, prevailing 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals. Freshman Libby Moog was also impressive just below Bugnacki in the lineup, winning 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2.

The closest match of the day for the Foresters came at #4 singles. After rolling 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, sophomore Sara Lopez came out on top of a 6-2, 5-7, (10-7) decision in the semifinal round.

Freshmen Maggie Fields and Rebecca Daskal, who would later team up at #3 doubles, advanced at the last two positions in the lineup. Fields took her first match 6-1, 6-0 and the second 6-3, 6-4 at #5 while Daskal did not drop a game in the opening round before posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the semifinals.

As the top seeds at #1 doubles, Campos and Bugnacki had a bye to Sunday's semifinals. Moog and Lopez blanked their counterparts 8-0 at #2 while Fields and Daskal did the same at #3.

Sunday's action at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wisconsin, will include the finals in singles and the last two rounds of doubles.
