The Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated Lawrence University 5-1 in the semifinals of the 2022 Midwest Conference Tournament before falling by the same score to Grinnell College in the final on Friday.

The Foresters took two of the three doubles matches in the semifinals. Juniors Maria Jose Campos and Margaret Bugnacki prevailed at #1 while freshman Libby Moog and sophomore Sara Lopez matched that result at #2.

Campos and Bugnacki also posted convincing victories at the top two spots in the singles lineup. The clinching point came from freshman Rebecca Daskal, who won both sets 6-1 at #6.

Lake Forest met Grinnell in the final for the fifth consecutive year the tournament was held. Unfortunatrely for the Foresters, it was also a third straight runner-up finish.

The Pioneers earned points at #1 and #3 doubles while Moog and Lopez rolled 8-1 at #2.

In singles, Bugnacki and Daskal prevailed in their first set and Campos was in a tiebreaker trying to do the same when the match ended. Grinnell was victorious at #3, #4, and #5 to clinch the tournament title.

The Foresters finished the fall with an overall record of 9-5 while Grinnell improved to 8-1.

Both teams will join the rest of the league in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday and Sunday for the 2022 MWC Individual Tournaments.
