Lake Forest College women's tennis player Maria Jose Campos was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday for her performance at last weekend's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships in St. Louis.
In the singles tournament Campos dropped the opening set of her first match 6-4 before taking the second by the same score. A 6-2 triumph in the third sent her to the round of 32, where she was eliminated by one of the event's top-16 seeds.
Campos teamed up with Margaret Bugnacki in doubles and the Forester juniors blanked their opponents 8-0 in the opening round. They were defeated by the tournament's #2 seeds in the round of 32 but added an 8-3 victory in the consolation bracket's round of 32.
Campos, Lake Forest's top player, is now 6-5 in singles and 8-5 in doubles this year.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors. Campos joins Bugnacki as Foresters who have earned the award in 2022.
