Forester Athletes of the Week: Sept. 13

Juniors Ryan Higgins of men's golf and Margaret Bugnacki women's tennis were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Higgins played the two-day, 36-hole Carthage Fall Classic at seven shots over par. His round of 76 on Friday consisted of a five over par front nine and an even par back nine; he made 10 pars in a row on the day. Higgins continued his success on Saturday firing a two-over par round of 73, which was a career-best. His second round consisted of four bogeys, 12 pars, and two birdies. He led the Foresters to an 8th place finish out of 20 teams in a field that consisted of 3 of the top 35 teams in the country.

Over the weekend, Bugnacki went undefeated in her four conference matches against Cornell College and Grinnell College. First, she won 8-1 at #1 doubles before blanking her #2 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0 in Saturday's sweep of Cornell. Then, Bugnacki helped account for both of the Foresters points against top ranked Grinnell. Teaming up with fellow junior Maria Jose Campos to win the #1 doubles spot 8-6. At #2 singles Bugnacki fought from behind to comeback and win the final match of the day in a third set tie breaker 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff. This is the first time Higgins has been named Forester Athlete of the Week; Bugnacki won once before during her sophomore season.
