Lake Forest Begins MWC Play with Sweep of Cornell

The Forester women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over visiting Cornell College on Saturday in the first Midwest Conference match of the season for both programs.

The sweep of the three doubles matches included 8-1 victories by juniors Maria Jose Campos and Margaret Bugnacki at #1 and sophomore Sara Lopez and freshman Libby Moog at #2. Freshmen Rebecca Daskal and Maggie Fields added an 8-3 triumph at #3.

Bugnacki did not lose a game at #2 singles and was the first to finish. A 6-3, 6-1 win by Lopez at #4 clinched the match and Moog prevailed 6-4, 6-1 at #3. The only tiebreaker of the day was played at the end of the first set at #1 singles. Campos won all seven points in the tiebreaker and did not drop a game in set two. The last Foresters on the courts were Daskal at #5 and Fields at #6. After both players won the first set 6-0, Daskal took the second 6-1 and Fields 6-2.

Lake Forest is now 2-3 overall on the season while the Rams fell to 2-2.

The Foresters will host Grinnell College on Sunday. Due to the weather forecast, the match has been moved indoors to the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff with an 11:00 a.m. start time.
