Lake Forest Sweeps Lawrence, Clinches Spot in MWC Tournament

The Forester women's tennis team blanked visiting Lawrence University 9-0 on Saturday to secure a spot in this year's four-team Midwest Conference Tournament.

The home team rolled at the bottom two spots in the doubles lineup where Lake Forest sophomore Margaret Bugnacki and junior Natalia Leite did not lose a game to the Vikings #2 team while senior Katie Wegrecki and freshman Isa Hinojosa prevailed 8-2 at #3. Sophomore Maria Jose Campos and freshman Sara Lopez trailed 5-2 at #1 before rallying to win 8-6.

Single play began with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph by Wegrecki at #5 and Hinojosa clinched the match by taking both sets 6-1 at #6. Bugnacki matched Wegrecki's score in her victory at #3 and Leite came out on top 6-2, 6-1 at #4. Lopez added a 6-1, 6-2 win at #5 and Campos closed out the contest with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at #1.

The Foresters are now 6-2 overall this fall and 4-0 in MWC play. Lawrence fell to 7-3 overall and finished the season 4-2 in the league.

Lake Forest will travel to Iowa for matches at Grinnell College and Cornell College on Sunday. Grinnell is also 4-0 in the league and will welcome Lake Forest at 9:00 in the morning. The contest at Cornell will begin at 3:00 p.m.
