Foresters Sweep St. Norbert, Advance to MWC Championship Match

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team hosted and defeated St. Norbert College 9-0 Saturday in the finals of the Midwest Conference North Division Tournament.

Forester seniors Julie Lord and Tyranny Miller improved to 8-0 at #1 doubles after outscoring the Green Knights top pairing 8-2. Their eight-match winning streak matches the 10th-longest run in team history.

Fellow senior Emma Wang and freshman Margaret Bugnacki defeated their counterparts at #2 doubles 8-3 while freshman MJ Campos and sophomore Natalia Leite rolled 8-1 at #3.

Lord also made history with her 6-1, 6-0 victory at #1 singles. It was her 135th career win overall (singles and doubles combined), moving her past Leeza Bodnar (133) and Grace Dowling (134) and into sole possession of third place in program history.

The clinching point was earned when Campos finished off a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at #2 and Wang won by the same score at #3. The closest match of the day was at #4 singles, where Miller edged out her opponent 6-3, 7-5. Bugnacki also took the first set 6-3 before rolling 6-1 in the second and Leite closed out the contest with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at #6 that extended her singles winning streak to 10 matches, a run that dates back to last year.

The Foresters improved to 7-1 on the season while St. Norbert finished the spring 4-6.

Lake Forest will play Grinnell College in next weekend's MWC Championship Match. A date and time has yet to be announced.
